    Illinois became the first state to decriminalize homosexuality.
  • 1972

    The Parent, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays was founded to increase the understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • 2003

    Massachusetts becomes the first state to legalize same-sex marriage.
  • 2009

    President Obama passed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act
  • 2011

    "Don't ask, don't tell" created by Clinton was repealed and now allowed openly gay men and lesbians serve in the military.
  • Today the LGBTQ is accepted by mostly everyone

    Same sex marriage became legal in all 50 States.
