    The Conquest of Mecca

    The Conquest of Mecca
    Power had shifted from Mecca to Medina and the Muslims then made a final march on Mecca. The Meccans surrendered and joined the Muslims.

    Muhammad's Final Years

    Muhammad returned to Medina, but at the final year of his life, he made one last trip to Mecca, with tens of thousands joining him. After the trip, he returned to Medina and died there.

    The Military Period

    The Meccans did not like what Muhammad was doing, so battles erupted and 3 major battles happened. Muslims won the first, lost the second and outlasted the third. A treaty later recognized the Muslims as a force in the Middle East. All along these battles were offensive attacks on caravans that traveled between Mecca and Medina.

    Muhammad and the Muslims Emigrate to Medina
    A group of Muhammad's followers traveled to Yathrib, where his father was buried. Muhammad stopped a civil war there and the city was renamed to Medina, meaning, "the City of the Prophet."

    After many more experiences like the first, Muhammad began to reveal messages to his tribe. These words were later seen as scripture. After much persecution, Muhammad's wife and uncle perish. Then the leaders of Mecca try to assassinate Muhammad.

    Muhammad Receives his First Revelation
    Muhammad was upset by materialism and idolatry, so he would retreat to mountain caves to meditate. Muhammad later was visited by a, "overpowering presence," with words and teachings that he cited to be God's.

    Muhammad later marries the woman who hired him, Khadjia. He was 25 and she was 40. They had six kids together, but two died in childbirth, resulting in 4 daughters.

    When Muhammad was around 20, he worked for a wealthy widowed merchant, named Khadjia bint Khawalayd.

    Only three years later, the grandfather who took Muhammad in, died and he had to live with his uncle.

    Amina bint Wahb's death and Muhammad becomes and Orphan.
    After traveling a few hundred miles to relatives that were outside of Mecca's limits, Amina fell ill and Muhammad was under the care of his grandfather.
