Hair Loss
During the 1890s Sarah Breedlove suffered from hair loss due to scalp ailment . This is when her hair journey began. -
Denver
January Of 1905, Sarah moved to Denver, Colorado. Where she worked as a hair care sales representative for Annie Malone. Also during this time Sarah came up with a method of straightening African-American hair. -
Creates her own hair shampoo and ointment
-Sarah had been married to her third husband Charles Walker, and that is when she changed her name to what we all know her as . Madam C.J Walker.
- Also this is when she created her home remedies. -
Lelia College
In 1908 Madam C.J Walker moved to Pittsburg, where she opened Lelia college to train her "hair culturists" . Her daughter Lelia manages the college. At this time she had a factory making her hair products. -
Expanding
By 1910 Madam C.J Walker's business was thriving. She relocated her business to Indianapolis, where she established the headquarters for the "Madame C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company", training facility, and she also built a salon.
This is when she began to get noticed in newspapers, and she donated to help build the "colored" YMCA , and helped out with lots of other organizations. -
Death
Sarah Breedlove now known as Madam C.J Walker passed away May 25,1919 in her upstate New York home at age 51 due to hypertension problems .
