    Louisiana Purchase
We got a chunck of land from France in 1803 which was called the Louisiana Purchase. We got the land from Napoleon and France since they were in debt from war. So we paid them $15 million, which today that would cost $160 million. We got it for four cents per acre. The size of this land was 828,000 square miles which included 17 states. Finally, the Louisiana Purcase was improtant to expanding from coast to coast.

    War of 1812
The War of 1812 was bad for the British but not for the US because it gave us nationalism. This war was fought msotly on land but also on sea. The result from the war was a stalemate or tie. Afterwards there was a battle at New Orleans which is called the Battle of New Orleans and it happened becasue we wanted the ports that were there. It was important because it brought the US closer together. This war helped us a lot becuase it brought us closer together and showed we were a big power.
  • Florida Territory

    Florida Territory
We bought the Florida Territory from Spain for $5 million in 1818. When Andrew Jackson went down there he invaded Spainsh forts and kicked them out with no permission. Then we signed a treaty called the Adams-onis Treaty in 1819 which gave us the land. So once we had the land we wanted to capture Seminole Raiders since these slaves were being helped. This was important becuase it had ports and was close to Central America. This territory is very useful so decided to get it and use it.
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine
This document is so importnat so we can colonize out country. The western hemisphere where North and South America are was off limits to Europeans so we could colonize. So we didn't was the European nations to come over here, so using this document caused the Europeans to hate it. So if they tried we would consider it to be a hostile act on the United States. Finally, this document effected the whole world not just the United States but later on it worked out.
  • Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears

Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears
Many Indian tribes had to move so that Americans could settle in that area which we called the Indian Removal Act. Five major tribes moved and there names are Creek, Choctaw, Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Seminole. They moved southward into Oklahoma. The trail that they walked is called the Trail of Tears because many Indians died and a lot got hurt. Finally, this was hard on the Indians and it was not good of Andrew Jackson to do this to them.
  • Republic of Texas

    Republic of Texas
The Republic of Texas was a slave state but when the wanted to join the union we didn't let them. Moses Austin brought people to Texas and when he died Stephen Austin took over. And Sam Houston was the first president of Texas. Then we fought with the Mexicans at the Alamo which was the first battle and we lost. Then the leader of the Mexican Army was captured by the Americans. Finally, this had a impact but Texas fought hard to become independent and they did so we let them into the Union.
  • Mexican American War and Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Mexican American War and Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This event and treaty added a lot of land to the United States. We fought with Mexico in this war in May of 1846 to January of 1847 and when the war was down we won. Then we signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago saying that we get all the land in the Southwest. So we gained California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. Finally, this event was very important becuase it gave us a lot of land and without it the United States would be different.
  • Oregon Territory

    Oregon Territory
For once the British and American shared something, the Oregon Territory. The Americans and British shared the area and both types of people lived there. So then we were like we wanted 54 40 or fight so we made this the motto since we wanted all the land up to that degree line. Then the British signed a treaty with America called the Treaty of Oregon which said we are going to slipt the land at the 49th degree line of latitude. This was a important becuase it let more people settle there.
