    As soon as Maria;s father died, King Fredrick ll of Prussia saw this as an opportunity to attack. Prussia tried to attack Silesia and bavaria and France invaded land from the west. When the war ended she lost Silesia, but she kept her country. This war is important because it is the first time of many that Maria's land is threatened by another major power.

    Maria Theresa is recognized as one of the greatest Austrian rulers of all time. This is becuase all of the positive reforms she made to her country. She overhauled the tax system to require payment from the nobility and clergy, established crown courts, built a national army, encouraged agriculture and business, and made education a responsibility of the state not the church. This is important because it shows that even a woman can be a great ruler too.

    Maria felt that she was powerful enough to have another conflict with Prussia after making her reforms. Maria made allies with France and Russia and got ready to attack, but was surprised when Prussia attacked one of Austria's allies, Saxony. After 7 years, Maria signed the Treaty of Hubertusberg which ended the war. This was important because it was one of Maria's major wars during her reign.
