  • Instatement of the Indian Act

    The Indian Act was for the sole purpose of assimilating and controlling First Nations people. This act enabled the government full power over indigenous activities, ceremonies, political involvement language, and education, and in short, prohibited First Nations from expressing their culture and identity. The act was made to take the variations of tribes and peoples and make them all forcefully adopt a Euro-Canadian identity.
