Vladek and Anja meet
Vladeks cousin first introduces Anja to Vladek. Vladek is 30, and Anja is 24 at the time. This is a turning point and character development for both characters because the relationship the two form changes their priorities and what they want to do. -
Anja and Vladek's Relationship
On Valentines Day in 1937, Anja and Vladek get married, and later that year in October, they have their first son, Richieu. Throughout the book, both Anja and Vladek give up a lot and risk their lives to do whatever it takes to protect Richieu. This is a turning point and character development for both characters because it changes how they think and what choices they make. -
Vladek gets drafted into war and becomes a prisoner of war
After getting drafted into the war, Vladek is caught by the Germans and is put into his first labor camp. In the camp he was forced to work very hard without much rest. This was a time of character development for Vladek because it made him a tougher and stronger person both physically and mentally. -
Sosnowiec is in danger of the Germans
the city of Sosnowiec is invaded by Germans and Jews are slowly taken. This was also character development for Vladek, especially when he say the 4 Jews hanging. -
Anja and Vladek in hiding
Many Jews from the town were taken to the camps and were put into ghettos. By 1944, Anja and Vladek come out of hiding and sneak from Srodula back to Sosnowiec. This is character development for both characters because they both gain knowledge and strength from these experiences.
