    Friedrich Ebert was appointed Chancellor. Germany was split between the opposing forces of Socialism, communism and nationalism.
  • Armistice

    Upon this day, a ceasefire was called between the two sides of the great war to work out a peace treaty
  • Sparticist Revolution

    The Sparticists, a filthy communist group revolt and attempt to seize power, they are stopped by the far left group the freikorps and their leaders are killed.
  • First Elected Government Was Enfrancised

    On the 19th January, 1919, the first elected government of the Weimar Republic was enfranchised, the social democrats lead with a majority, Schniderman became president and Ebert Chancellor
  • Treaty of Versailles

    This treaty placed many restrictions on Germany, including a limitation on its armies, a hefty fine, German provinces and colonies were taken from them and the Guilty clause which made Germany accept all blame for the war.
  • Hitler Joins the German Workers Party

    Hitler, working for the army is sent to investigate a German political party, however, he ends up agreeing with this parties ideology and he joins the party and becomes one of their foremost members.

  • The Kapp Putsch

    Wolfgang Kapp a right-wing former civil servant from Prussia who was the leader of the German Fatherland Party, which wished to form and authoritarian type government. He marched into Berlin with the leader of the Freikorps and his men. The army refused to take up arms against other german soldiers, as many of the freikorps members were ex-army. Kapp was defeated when the workers of Berlin went on strike. Although the Putsch failed, it showed just how weak the weimar government was at this stage

    Hyperinflation

    To help pay off the German debt the german government decided to print more and more bank notes with increasing values to pay out to the workers, this resulted in a massive decrease of the value of the German mark, in which prices were massively inflated.In 1918 a loaf of bread cost 1/4 Reichsmark in 1922 this had increased to three Reichsmarks. In 1923 the market price for bread spiralled, reaching 700 Reichsmarks January 100,000 (July) 2m September 670m October and then 80b marks November

    French Occupation of the Rhur

    After missing a reparation payment from Germany, France mobilised her army and occupied the Germany industrial region of the Rhur, The German government encouraged the workers that were in the Rhur to strike and stope producing materials, by promising to continue to pay their wages even when they were striking. Even though this ended the occupation, the german government was in vast amounts of debt and they decided to print extra banknotes to pay the workers, worsening the hyperinflation crisis.

    Gustav Stresemann who served as Chancellor for a very short period of time and Foreign Minister for several years made many improvements to Germany whilst he was in power, these included, a lessening to the amount required to be payed to the allies as reparations for the great war, he secured many loans form america to help rebuild germany, industrial output increase dramatically and unemployment dropped
  • Beer Hall Putsch

    Beer Hall Putsch
    Adolf lead a coup on the government of Munich in an attmept to take over Munich, 2000 men marched into the centre of Munich where the confronted police which ended up with 16 filthy Nazi and 4 Police officers dead. Hitler was arrested for treason and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. He ended up only serving 9 months, in which time he founded mein kaumfy chair
  • The Great Depression

    Us stock exchange prices collapsed in "the wall street crash" resulting in economic depression around the world, in germany the inflow of new loans ceased and repayments on old loans could not be met. Germany was crumbling
  • Nazis gain political power

    Chancellor Heinrich Bruening was unable to get the support needed for his economic plans from the reichstag, because of this political stalemate he asked President Hindenburg to dissolve the Reichstag and call an election. In this election the Nazis gained 107 seats making them the second largest party in germany
  • Hitler is appointed Chancellorship

    after the use of some underhand tactics Hitler managed to gain chancellorship.
  • The Enabling Act Was Approved

    The Enabling act allowed the government to pass laws without parliamentary consent, it also banned all other political parties and removed the president from power over the chancellor. It pretty much made Germany a de facto legal dictatorship
  • Germany Withdrawn From League of Nations

    Adolf Hitler made the decision to withdraw Germany from the league of nations.
  • Hitler Reintroduces Conscription

    German troops were "invited" into Austria, and the country was annexed by Hitler, despite the Treaty of Versailles strictly forbidding it.

    The world leaders allow Hitler to occupy the Sudetenland, in return for his word that he won't occupy any more land in Europe.
