    In Europe spain had opposed Napoleon and started a war between France and Spain, weakening the attention that Spain could give to the colonies. In New Spain Hidalgo had started to have some meeting with Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez.

    Discovered
    The people behind the movement were discovered by the spaniards because some of the people who attended the secret meeting told their superiors about the movement. They had to act quickly to start the Independence.
  • Grito de Dolores

    Grito de Dolores
    Miguel Hidalgo had to start the independence, so he gave a speech known as "El Grito de Dolores" in Dolores to inspire his followers to follow him into a brighter future.
  • Battle of Alhóndiga de Granaditas

    Battle of Alhóndiga de Granaditas
    Hidalgo had lead his army to Guanajuato where he had a battle for Alhóndiga de Granaditas. When Hidalgo's army had no way to enter and conquer the building "El Pipa" tied a large rock to his back to keep the bullets from hitting him and burned the door to let the army inside, eventually winning the battle.

    Battle of Monte de las Cruces
    The Battle of Monte de las Cruces, was the toughest battle for Hidalgo's army, the spaniards were more prepared and with greater numbers. But this battle could have been among the last stepping stone for the independence because it decided the fate of Mexico City. Hidalgo won the battle and could have moved on to Mexico city unfazed, but retreated back to Guadalajara to keep his army from completely looting Mexico City.

    Battle of Bridge of Calderon
    The Battle of Bridge of Calderon, was a battle where Hidalgo's army had the upper hand in numbers, but the highly equipped and highly trained spanish army was able to hit the ammunitions dump of Hidalgo's army and made the indians flee from battle. This made the Spanish army win and made Hidalgo and other leaders of the independence movement to retreat north, where they would be captured and executed.

    After his capture, Miguel Hidalgo was charged with treason and was sentenced to execution. He was placed infront of a firing squad. He demanded that he was shot in his hand that he had placed at his heart.

    Battle of Temalaca
    The battle of Temalaca started on November 5, with the leader Jose Maria Morelos leading the insurgent army. Morelos lost the battle and was captured and imprisoned. He was accused of treason and with acts against the catholic church. He was later executed.

    The Plan of Iguala was made active on february 24. It mainly gave three promises: The independence of Mexico, primacy of the Roman Catholicism, and social equality. Agustin de Iturbide and Vicente Guerrero were the two men behind the Plan of Iguala.

    On september 27 1821, Iturbide's army defeated the spanish army and entered Mexico City. Finally Mexico declared its independence from spain. Iturbide was made the emperor of Mexico.
