  • Germans invade Poland

    On September 1st, 1939 Germany planned to relcaim its lost land in order to control all of poland using what is now known as the Blitzkrieg strategy. Although the polish army had around a million soliders they were well unequipped for an attack and had attacked the Germans head on. As they struggled to win against the Germans they ultimately surrendered and Germany had tooken over Poland but soon Great Britian had counter attacked the germans with bombings.

  • Operation Barbossa

    On june 2nd, 1941 Hitler set forth a massive invasion on the Soviet Union. At this time the Germans had deployed three tanks with over 3 million soldiers but although their massive attack they failed and thus a huge turning point for hitler. Soon Hitler and his men planned to attack again in the folllowing months as they had certainly underestimated the Soviet Union and their next attack was success and eneded up capturing 600,000 Soviet soliders as prisoners but russia counterattacked and won.
  • Pearl Harbor

    On december 7th, 1941, Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii ultimately killing 2,000 soldiers and injured 1,000 as well. This attack also had destroyed 20 vessels, 8 battleships, and over 300 airplanes. This attack was well coordinated as it had caught the Americans by suprise. After this attack president Roosevelt had soon declared war on Germany and its allied powers.
  • Wansee Conference

    The Wansee Conference was a meeting held in Berlin by Nazi superiors to decide their final solution on what to do with the jews and solve the jewish question. The two Nazi generals who had conducted this meeting were given orders by Hitler to solve the jewish question. They soon talked about gruesome ways to kill the jews by either mass sterilization or deportation to deserted islands. Soon they decided to make what are now called gas chambers and was the most painful way to die.
  • warsaw ghetto uprising

    From apirl 9th 1943 and may 16th 1943 , the jewish ghetto in poland planned a revolt against the deportations to concentration camps and this plan started many other uprisings. Their plan had been to steal weapons from the armory in their neighborhood which help the weapons used by the germans gaurding the neighborhood and escape. Their plan to get guns was succesfukk as 1,000 jewish people had acquired weapons but not all escaped as some were recaptured and executed but hundreds of jews escaped
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah was an attack launched by the U.S and Great Britian in which they bombed Germany with air raids following Germanys attack on England which resulted in the death of 167 civilians. Great Britian had dropped about 2,300 incenedary bombs on germany killing about 1,500 german troops just in its first raid. The success of these raids also came from a tactic used to jam their communication systems using tinfoil on their bombs to make it look as if they had more planes attacking.
  • Normandy Invasion (D-Day)

    D-Day was an operation conducted by the U.S, Canada, and England which lasted from june 1944, to august 1944. The main objective for the U.S and its allies was to liberate all of france's normandy region in which about 156,000 allied troops stormed the beach and by late August almost all of normandy had been liberated and under allied control.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima & Okinawa

    The battle of Iwo Jima was a plan to acquire a base near the Japanese coast that the U.S needed in order to have communications. They had deployed about 3 marine divisions to attack against 23,000 Japanese troops but the U.S was able to defeat the japanese in raising their flag to symbol victory. Okinawa was an attack that the americans had to defend air bases in order to conduct their invasion of japan in which 287,000 americans fought against 130,000 troops and the U.S ultimately won.
  • VE Day

    VE Day was a day of celebration following the surrender of all of europes forces in which they had defeated that area of Hitlers Regime. Banners and flags were put up around the citites and more than 13,000 british troops were released from their prisons and more than 2 million german troops were captured by british troops as well.
  • Hiroshima & Nagasaki

    On August 6th 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan ultimately killing 90% of the population which was about 80,000 people. After the bombing the Jaoanese still did not surrender so president roosevelt issued the second bombing on Nagasaki, Japan killing about 40,000 people. Soon japans emperor hirohito finally surrendered to the U.S. This bombing was considered the most devastating attack on Japan as it killed a total of 120,000 people.
  • VJ Day

    On august 14th 1945, Japan finally announced their surrender to the U.S and its allies following the surrender of Germany. The day japan surrendered it became known as victory over japan day or vj day. After their surrender all japanese americans were released from internment camps and were free to go home if they still remained. Over the years now vj day is not celebrated as often as some offense has been expressed by the japanese as they are now our allies.
