  • the history of amirs family

    This part of the book talks of the respect the family used to have,"Inside sat framed pictures: an old, grainy photo of my grandfather and King Nadir Shah taken in 1931, two years before the kings assassination"(Hosseini 5).Amirs family used to have even more respect and were treated even better than now. After this event there respect declined slightly.
  • boba is born

    This event describes a long time ago,"In 1933, the year bobba was born..."(Hosseini 24). This event is very important because this was the start of Bobas increasing respect and wealth.
  • Ali and Bobas freindship

    In the book it describes the childhood of Ali and Bobba, and metions the childhood of Hassan and Amir,"Ali and Boba grew up together as childhood playmates-at least until polio Ali's leg-just like Hassan and I grew up a generation later"(Hosseini 25). This shows that as children we are equals. They do not think about one person being less than another person they just see a child that is like them.

    In 1963 Air was born and during this time " mother died giving birth to him"(Hossenini 6). This event is very important because Amir feels responsible for his death.
  • The birth of Hassan

    In the book it had said Amir remembers that, "It was there, in that little shack, that Hassan was born in the winter of 1964"(Hossenini 6) Amir feels that Hassan is causing his problems. The shack from the quote shows that he lower class level than Amir.
  • Babas orphanage

    This part of the book is when Baba finishes building his orphanage, "three years [after it started]" (Hosseini 13). This is proveing the point of just how much Baba was invested in this and his tramedous amount of effort into his orphanage. Building this orphanage obviously ment a lot to boba because of all the time he spent working on it.
  • The first story that amir has ever wrote

    In 1973 Amir has "wrote his short story" (Hosseini 30). Rahim khan and amir started to bond over his story. Rahim belived in him so much and he thought "bravo". The importance of this was that it started amir's writing experience.
  • the rape of hassan

    Amir had thought that, "I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan-the way he'd stood up for me all those times in the past-and axxept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran."(Hosseini 77) This is very important because this was amirs changing point in the book. He made a decission that he would have to live with for the rest of his life.

    Amir and Hassan shout out "you won, Amir agha! You won...We won! We won! (Hosseini 66). In this moment Amir thought he and Hassan were equals.This was bringging the two boys together and was a good moment they shared
  • boba dies

    boba is very sick and Soraya and Amir have been spending a lot of time taking care of him. Then one night, "boba goes to sleep and does not wake up"(Hosseini 173). This event is very important because boba was amirs father and he has always looked up to him. It was a very traumatic event for him.
  • amir graduates

    In this part of the book a very important seance happens,"I graduated from high school at the age age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day."(Hosseini 131) This means he is now free to go with his father to america and leave all his troubles in the past.
  • Amir gets married

    During the events of the wedding "boba spent 35000, nearly the balance of his life savings, on the awroussi, the wedding ceremony."(Hosseini 169) This letts the reader know that bobba cared about family tradition. He cared for his son and whanted people from all over to come and see this wedding.
  • hassan dies

    When the Taliban heard a rummer that a hazara family was close to them they grew very angry. They thought they were not worthy and should be killed. They thought he was a lyer they had him kneel then they " Shot him in the back of the head"(Hosseini 219). The Taliban did not respect the Hazaras and thought of them as less. They had heard they were wealthy and thought they had cheated there way to that sort of life, so they killed them.
  • hassan and amirs lips

    The next day when Amir wakes up in the hospital, the doctor says, “The impact had cut your upper lip in two, clean down the middle” (Hosseini 297) This foreshadows there relationship and how close they are. It is bonding them together and showing how similar they are with each other.
  • the first time soharb smiles

    This is the point of the book when things are starting to go back uphill for amir. He witnesses something and he thinks its,"Only a smile. A tiny thing. A leaf in the woods, shaking in the wake of a startled bird's flight."(Hosseini 371). This is the bittersweet ending. The wrongs he has made have not been righted but he is on the path of redemption for what he has done.
