The Permission Slip
Maya was trying to decide whether she wanted to go to the Spring Fling at school. Her homeroom class is passing them out and she is debating if she wants to go. She knew that her parents wouldnt let her go because her parents are extremely strict about what she does. But she got a permission slip anyway. -
Moving to America
Maya and her family moved from Kazakhstan to America.They came to America because their Aunt Madina would'nt stop asking them to come. Finally, she talked them into it. They came to America through an International dating magazine. After Mayas grandmother died her aunt started to read the dating magazines. She finally met a guy named Bob Cambell and then moved to America. -
Called To The Front Office
Maya was called to the front office during ELA class. She didnt know what was going on. It turns out that her little brother, Nurzhan was suspended because he got in a fight. She found out that no one was extremely hurt and she felt a little bit better. Both of the boys recieved a two day suspension. -
The Green Cab
Maya and her brother were looking through the principals window as her dad pulls around the corner of the school. She knew that things were about to get serious.She was hoping that her brother wasnt going to get in trouble but she was thinking different. She knew that her brother was about to get in trouble. -
Translating
Whenever Mayas little brother got in a fight she had to translate what the principal said to her father. She had to translate because her father knew very little English. When she translated to her father she told her father the oopposite of what the principal said. Why do you think that she did that? I think it is because she didnt want to get her little brother to be in trouble. -
The Car Ride Home
On the ride home it was quiet. Maya's dad's cab smelled like perfume. Maya was scared that her father would find out that she translated the words that the principal said. Finally, her father turned off the car and turned around to Maya and her brother. he said "I am ashamed of this. To come to school and find you in trouble, Nurzhan." He told them that their punishment was that they could'nt watch TV and they will have to go to bed without dinner. -
"I missed my Gymnastics meet because of you."
When Maya and Nurzhan got home Maya started to peel potatoes for dinner immediately. Nurzhan sat at the table to do his work. He started to talk to Maya but she told him not to talk to her. She told him "I missed my gymnastics meet beacause of you." Nurzhan said "I just wanted to thank you".
