Would we have an African-American President without the Civil Rights Movement and legislation? Equality of everyone becomes a question (women, race, gender, age, etc.)

    1964-1968—President Johnson launches his Great Society by establishing Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and other programs meant to help Americans out of poverty. Government continues to aid those in poverty. The most recent being President Obama's Health Care Act (ObamaCare) that help those without medical insurance.

    1970—Environmentalism; first Earth Day protests, creation of Environmental Protection Agency to enforce increasing number of environmental laws and regulatory agencies. Environmental issues continue today, especially concerns with Global Warming. Since 1970 several bills have passed to protect our environment; such as Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Wetlands Protection, Clean Drinking Water Act, Right To Know Act, etc.

    1993—Internet becomes prominent Well we know what this event has done for communication! From Facebook to email, from ordering online to checking your grades, internet has opened up a whole new way of living today. Even though we have many pros to having internet, there have also been many cons. Severs being hacked, stolen account numbers, and false identities are just a few of the problems now and will be into the future.

    2000—Disputed presidential election, Supreme Court gives election to George W. Bush over Al Gore. Gore wins popular vote, Bush wins electoral college votes. Our last election (2016) certainly is evident of this continued question - is the electoral college a fair and accurate way to choose a president. Many people protested and sent emails to the representatives of the electoral college, wanting them to "change their vote". We will see what happens next with this issue.

    Terrorism
    September 11th terrorist attacks; 19 terrorists hijack four planes and crash them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people and injuring over 6,000. Since this attack we have seen several countries, cities, and communities be torn apart due to terrorism. The US also initiated a color-coded terrorism watch code system. We have changed how we run airports, how we do immigration, and how we live our daily lives.
