    My LIteracy Timeline

  • Bedtime Stories

    Bedtime Stories
I was born February 22nd, 1995. My mom would read me and my siblings books every night. Of course we all had our favorites: Goodnight Moon, Love you Forever, Lullabye Goodnight, and Bible Stories for Little Girls.
  • Sign Language

    Sign Language
In 1st grade my teacher, Miss Cromie, taught my class some sign language. Including, the alphabet, how to count, and simple words such as cat, dog, girl, boy, etc. We would practice everyday as a class. Still to this day I remember my ABC's in sign language.
  • Reading with Dad

    Reading with Dad
Once I could read more advcaned books, my dad and I would read together every night. We read the entire Magic Tree House series, probably more than once because we both loved it. We also read the Goosebumps books, which were fun because they were choose your own adventure. He would always help me on the words I struggled with, and we would take turns reading pages.
  • Pen Pals & post cards

    Pen Pals & post cards
In the 3rd grade every student in my class and I had a pen pal who lived in England, from a 3rd grade class. We wrote back and forth about 4 times throughout the year. Another thing my class did was recieve postcards from all around the world. Every student would have friends and relatives write a postcard to our class. By the end of the year the baord in the back of the room was filled with postcards from every state in America, and even some from different countries!
  • Reading Groups

    Reading Groups
In 4th grade my teacher took each kid from my class to test us on our reading, than she placed us in reading groups based on our level of reading. Everyday we would have time to read with our group, and my teacher would change which group she worked with everyday. We would take turns reading outloud. Also, whenever we would read stories as a whole class we would "popcorn read" so everyone had to follow along and get a chance to read outloud.
  • Reading Log

    Reading Log
In 7th grade my teacher made us keep reading logs. Everyday after lunch we would sit at our desk for silent reading. We could read any book of our choice, but we had to write down how long we read for, how many pages we read, and our teacher had to sign off on it.
  • Cell Phones

    Cell Phones
In 8th grade I got my very first cell phone, which meant texting! This was a new form of communication and writing for me. I would sometime abbreviate words, such as IDK for " I don't know" or HBY for "How 'Bout You?" These texts would also be short, as oppose to a long letter.
  • Highschool Hate

    Highschool Hate
In highshcool I grew a hate towards reading, we would be assigned books to read for English class and I remember never reading the book at all. I would just wing it the day I went to class, or ask people who read it what it was about. This has carried on with me throughout all highschool and even now into college. Since I am always assigned reading, and never get to chose when or what I read I have no desire to resd in my free time.
  • Public Speaking

    Public Speaking
Freshamn year of college I had to take COM class, I had to give multiple speeches, and write a few papers. Over my life time I have gotten better at giving speeches, and masturing "winging-it" becase I have a procastination problem. For me it is hard to organize speeches and papers. I would rather just speak my mind and talk about the topic, rather than following a certain guidline/patter and being graded based off of how well I followed the "rules" of the rubric.
  • Future

    Future
Looking into my future as a future teacher, I hope I can make reading and writing fun and enjoyable for my students. I wish to engage them in the subject, and want them to do it on their own or on their free time.
