  • Education Act 1944

Education Act provided free secondary education for all pupils. Local Education Authorities (LEAs) were told to reorganise their secondary schooling in their area. Three types of schools came about; grammar, secondary modern and technical. The introduction of the '11 plus' exam came about in order to determine which school the pupil should go in. The leaving age at this time was 15.
