    In 1796 Napoleon was selcted to lead French troops into Italy.
    There the French defeted the Austrians, who ruled Italy at the time.
    As a result France aquirred Belgium from Austria.
    France also aquirred hundreds of art treasures from Italy, which were placed in the Lourvre, the French national museum.
