  • Coup D'etat

    The Coup D'etat happened during the beginning of November, 1799 and it was the seizure of power that Napoleon led his army and surrounded the national legislature. They drove out mostly all of the members and Napoleon gained control.
  • Concordat

    The Concordat was a signed agreement between Napoleon and Pope Pius VII. This Concordat granted Napoleon support of the Catholic Church.
  • Loss of American Territories

    Napoleon decided that he had to cut his losses to keep from bankruptcy. To stop this from happening, Napoleon sold all of the Louisiana Territory to the United States for $15 million. He knew this would give power to the United States.
  • Conquering of Europe

    Napoleon decided that he had to start expanding his ground in Europe to stay in control, because he had already given up all his land in the United States. Russia, Austria, and Sweden all joined Britain in the fight against France.

    The Napoleonic Code was Napoleon's comprehensive system of laws regarding liberty and rights. This Code gave the country a set of laws and authority over individual rights.

    Accomplishments of Napoleon

    Napoleon Bonaparte became France's first emperor. He also was a military and political leader who created major accomplishments that benefited France and directly affected the balance of power in Europe. His accomplishments included reforms in politics, domestic affairs, religion and the military.
  • Napoleon Crowned as Emperor

    Napoleon decided that it was time that he made himself emperor, so, on December 2, 1804, Napoleon made himself emperor. The pope awaited him with a glittering crown.
  • Continental System

    The Continental System was a strategy used by Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars. This strategy was designed to paralyze Great Britain through the destruction of British commerce.
  • Invasion of Russia

    Napoleon thought that it would be very important to invade Russia and capture their leader. However, Russia knew of this attack before it occurred, so they attempted the Scorched Earth tactic, which worked perfectly and made Napoleon's army fail.
  • The Hundred Days

    Napoleon heard about Louis's problems and he escaped back to France and within days, he was the Emperor again.
  • Waterloo

    Waterloo was a village in Belgium where the Duke of Wellington prepared a battle against the Napoleonic army. Napoleon's group gave way two days later, surrendering the battle.
