October 17, 1797 was the date the Treaty of Campo- Formio was signed between France and Italy. Bonaparte sets sail for Egypt on May 19, 1798 and captured Malta. In July Napolean wins the Batlle of the Pyramids and enters Cairo. Napolean destroys the french fleet at Aboukir, and takes Jaffa. -
The siege of Saint John d'Acre begins
After eight unsuccessful attacks during this siege it was ended in May of 1799. Napolean leaves for Egypt shortly after this and arrives in Paris on October 16, 1799.
