    Born Malcolm Little, Malcolm X developed a mistrust for whites early on in his life. After his house was burned, and his father murdered, he moved from Lansing to Harlem, and he turned to crime. After being arrested, he was enlightened by Islam and converted. His approach to civil rights was in stark contrast to Martin Luther King Jr's, in that he preached retaliation. He believed that blacks should achieve what was rightfully theirs "by any means necessary."

    Wallace D. Fard Muhammad
    During the summer of 1930, Muhammad proclaimed himself to be the leader of the Nation of Islam. He wrote a doctrine claiming that Islam was the true religion of blacks and that Christianity was the faith for whites, who he believed to be inferior to blacks. He later rented a Detroit meeting hall as the Nation of Islam's first temple.

Malcolm became the head spokesperson after meeting ellijah.

    Malcolm X breaks ties with the nation after hearing that the main leader Elijah Muhammad was having affairs with his young secereties. Islam forrbids adultry.He also leaves because he no longer agrees with what the some of the nations teachings. 1.That white people are "Devils". Soon later creates his own organization which is called the Black Nationalist. After converting to a sunni muslim,he gets financial help from his half sister Ella Little-Collins to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.

    The Million Man March was held by Louis Farrakahn the leader of the nation of islam. On October 16, 1995, an estimated 850,000 African American men from across the United States gathered together at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This meeting was a calling for all able-bodied African American men to come to the nation's capitol to address the ills of the black commnities.
  • NOI vs. Islam

    NOI vs. Islam
    The Nation of Islam differs from traditional Islam in that, NOI is a political philosophy, whereas Islam is a religious belief system. Many Muslims regard NOI as contradictory to their faith. Traditional Muslims don't see NOI followers as true Muslims. NOI followers worship its founder as the messiah, whereas muslims believe that the prophet was Muhammad, and see Fard Muhammad only as an idol. Finally, NOI has black supremecist views, whereas Islam believes in racial equality.
