This caused a lot of poeple to die or on the verge of dieing, which the narrator in the book discusses about her village and many asking for food from everybody.

The girls had to stay home with their mother, learning house work and responsibility. Even some families made there kids including boys had to stay home and help their parents at there house.

She wrote about what was acutally happening in India at the time. In the story she talks about how the family don't have a lot of food, due to a huge typhoon, and weather, which in India typhoon and harsh weather conditions did occur in India, and left people with no homes.
