    Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in a small town of Mvezo in Transkei, South Africa. During this time, blacks and whites lived completely different lives.     On January 1, 1925, Mandela attended a primary school in a town near his called Quna. Quna was a small village in South Africa's Eastern Cape providence. He was given the name "Nelson" by his teacher.     Though Mandela was going through his school years and just starting with the ANC, hard times where being experienced throughout the world. Through 1929-1939, the U.S was going through the 'Great Depression'.     This event happened between 1939-1945 and took place all around the world. This major war broke out when Hilter tried to invade Poland. Doing this, it caused France and Great Britiain to declare war against Germany. As the war begun, more than 30 countries had already joined in the war.     In 1952, the Deficiency Campaign begins. This campaign was the first multi-raced political "club" that discussed racial equality. His presents in this campaign did not last long; he was soon arrested for violated Suppression of Communism Act. SCA was an act that prevented any communism parties forming.     Sharpeville Masacre
    Sharpeville was a small black village in South Africa. On March 21, 1960, police open fired on the unarmed village folk. They ended up killing 69 people and injuring 180.     In 1964, Mandela was sentenced to life in prison along with several other ANC leaders. He spent his first 18 years in prison in Ribben Island Prison where he had to do hard labor. After 27 years in prison, the new president of South Africa, F.W. De Klerk lifted the ban and punishment to all ANC members.     On August 13, 1961, the Eastern part of Berlin began to build a wall to divide the city into Eastern Berlin and Western Berlin. In 1989 on Novemeber 9, the Cold War came to an end and the east and west part of Berlin gained a friendly relationship.     On April 26, 1994, the South African community got together to vote for there next president. This was known as there first multiracial parliamentary elections in history. Mandela's hard work was paid off because on May 10 of 1994 he was officially elected president of South Africa. As president, he created many programs that helped the living of blacks across South Africa.     Columbine High School Shootings
    In Columbine, Colorado on April 20, 1999, two teenagers open fired in their school killing 13 people and injuring more than 20 others. Soon after, the shooters committed suicide.   • After Presidency

    After Presidency
    Once his term was complete he officially me retired from politics but Mandela refused to stop fighting for the rights of all and continued to create organizations to the cause. In 2002, he was the voice of the AIDS awareness campaigns. Tragically his son was taken away from the disease which only caused Mandela to establish more awareness for the disease.     This was one of the most tradgic events that occurred over in the U.S. On September 11 2001, 4 planes ( that were driven by suicide bombers) were sent to the U.S as an act of terrorism. Two out of the four planes hit the World Trade Center in NYC, one landed at the pentagon in Washington, and the last landed in a field in Pennsylvania.     The 2012 where African-American women and men made Olympian history by taking home the gold. Gabby Douglas won gold in gymnastics, Usain Bolt won gold in track and field , Serena Williams won gold for Women's tennis, and so many more.   • Death Date

    Death Date
    Mandela's health caused his disappearance to the public as he fought cancer and lung issues. Between winter months of 2013, he was in and out from hospitals. His hospital visits came to a close when he was sent home to spend his last moments in the comfort of his home in Johannesburg. Many people of the South African community came together to thank Mandela for everything he had done to ensure racial equality was given to the people of South Africa.
