Nelson was born in Qunu, (a villiage in South Africa). His birth name was Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Nelson's family was very poor, they were so poor that Nelson was born in a mud hut. He was born right when the Apartheid was starting. Apartheid was a form of segragation in South Africa. -

Nelson's father wanted him to be cheif for their tribe and follow in his footsteps. Nelson wanted to go to school for politics. Instead of politics, his father wanted him to be a lawyer. Nelson eventually went to Fort Hare University, but got expelled for political activities. -
Kicked Out
Nelson Mandela got expelled from Fort Hare University for being invovled in political activities. He did not agree with the way they executed the voting process. He boycotted voting of the Student Representative Council. Soon after being expelled he was sent to jail for breaking curfew. -
Cell Mate
Nelson Mandela met Walter Sisilu in prison, where they were cell mates. They became best friends. Nelson Mandela spent all of his time with him. Nelosn tried to teach him all of the things about politics he knew. -
Winnie
Nelson married his third wife, Winne. She supported his life style. She didnt mind that he was always at work and barley ever home. Winnie was an African social worker. She agreed with his message and sometimes went on protests with him. -
Famous Speech
During one of the hardest years for Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have A Dream" sppech. Over 250,000 people showed up for this speech. It was held at the Linclon Memorial. The speech was about racial segragation in America. -

During one of the years that Nelson Mandela was in prison, JFK was assasinated. John F. Kennedy was assasinated at 12:30 pm on November 22nd. Lee Harvey Oswald was the person that shot him. There are many theories about how he was shot. -
De Klerk
De Klerk was the prime minister of South Africa. He brought an end to the 30 year ban of the ANC. He quickly began to reform the ANC after that. -
Free Man
Nelson Mandela is freed from prison after a 27 years -life sentance. He got arrested for trying to sabatoge the African state. Mandela was kept in an all black prison. -

Nelson Mandela got elected president of the ANC. Nelson Mandela had already been in the association for many years before he was elected president. He won the Nobel Peace Prize for the work he did with the ANC. He is mostley famous for the work he did with the ANC. -
Life for Nelson Mandela today
Nelson Mandela lives in South Africa. He still lives with his wife, Winnie. Nelson mandela will be 94 years old in July. Nelson had a horrible loss in his family, when his grand-daughter was on her way to the fifa world cup, she was hit by another car and ended up dying.
