    Newsweek named SUNY New Paltz the "Hottest Small State School." New Paltz has become increasingly popular in recent years and has recently been named the number four top regional public universities by U.S. News. This new influx of students partly accounts for rise in town population. The school currently caters to 7,885 students.

    Woodland Pond is a luxury retirement community in New Paltz. Since it's opening in 2010, it has helped the dramatic increase in the elderly population of not only New Paltz but the entrie Hudson Vallley. The housing development caters to people as young as 62 years old.

    The last American census was taken in 2010. The New Paltz population increased to 18,308, 86% white, and !2.1% 65 years and older. This is the most recent census taken.
  • Susan Zimet reelected for Town Supervisor

    Susan Zimet reelected for Town Supervisor
    Zimet was first elected to the position in 1996 and later took an 8-year hiatus to serve on the Ulster County Legislature before being reelected in 2011. Zimet did not seek reelection in 2015. But, according to The Daily Freeman, she is pursuing a book deal with a major publisher.
