  • Oct 4, 1492

    The discovery of America

    Columbus led his three ships - the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria - out of the Spanish port of Palos on August 3, 1492. His objective was to sail west until he reached Asia (the Indies) where the riches of gold, pearls and spice awaited. His first stop was the Canary Islands where the lack of wind left his expedition becalmed until September 6.

    Francisco Hernández de Córdoba landed on the Mexican peninsula, Yucatán.
  • Jan 1, 1519

    Tried Conquer Aztec

    Hernan Cortez tried to conquer the Aztec empire with 500 men. It was the beginning of colonization through the Spanish. Hernan Cortez allied with some tributaries and rivals of the Aztecs, including the Totonacs, and the Tlaxcaltecas. They introduced diseases to the native people. Native people had no resistance to diseases such as measles, smallpox and influenza. It was one reason that Spain could conquest the Aztec Empire.

    Hernando Cortez landed in San Juan de Ulloa, and started conquering.

    Spread of epidemics

    Two Epidemics spread over Mexico, Smallpox(swept through Mexico in 1520) and Typhus. Smallpox was an infectious disease unique to humans, caused by virus(the WHO certified the eradication of smallpox in 1979). Typhus is any of several similar diseases caused by Rickettsia bacteria.

    The beginning of New Spain

    The Caribbean islands and early Spanish explorations around the circum-Caribbean region had not been of major political, strategic, or financial importance until the conquest of the Aztec Empire in 1521.

    fall of the Tenochtitlan

    The population of the city was over 500,000 people. Spain could easily prepare an attack on Tenochtitlan because they had guns. After they bared the city, which was only achievable over three dams, they broke the catering. New Spain,the colony of Spain, was founded.

    The Crown

    in 1524 as the crown entity to oversee the crown's interests in the New World. Since the time of the Catholic Monarchs, central Iberia was governed through councils appointed by the monarch with particular jurisdictions.
  • Reducción of Indian people

    Because of fights between the Indians and the Spaniards, Indian population was reduced.
  • American Slaves

    Many native American Slaves were sold at Rio Grande, and sent south to work in gold and silver mines.
  • colonies

    The Spanish king wanted all the people in the colonies to speak Spanish. They built schools and bishops had to control the language problem. Therefore the Native Americans were forced to learn Spanish.
