  • Chapter 1, 1-22

    Eliezer, the narrator and main character, finda mentor for his learning of Kabbalah, that teacher is Moshe the Beadle. Soon after all of the foriegn Jews of the town are expelled to a different town to work and then be killed. The town is taken over by the Germans and Eliezer's family is the one of the last to leave but is eventually heared to Auschwitz. Total pages 1489
  • Chapter 2, 23-46

    The Jews are on a train with terrible conditions. They see what will happen to them if they choose to act out in any way through Madame Schachter. They reach Auschwitz and are told that the conditions there will be wonderful. Eliezer and his farther are seperated from his mother and sister. They are encouraged to lie about their ages to stay alive. Finally they are escorted for Auschwitz to Buna where they will be for several months. Total pages 1513
  • Chapter 4, 47-65

    In this chapter Eliezer witnesses many hangings and killings and takes many beatings himself. He admits to he=imself how much the camp is changing him. Totals pages 1532
  • Chapter 5, 66-84

    Eliezer hurts his foot and an opertation is required to fix it just as winter come. There is word that the Russian soliders are coming to free the camp. However the Germans evacuate the camp excpet those in the infermary who can choose to go or choose to stay. Eliezer chooses to go which evidentally was the wrong decision because a couple day later the Russians freed those who stayed in the infermary. Total pages 1551
  • Chapter 6, 85-103

    Eliezer and his father manage to escape another selection and remain alive in the new location. Conditions are getting worse and worse. Total pages 1570
  • Chaoter 8, 104-155

    Eliezer father becomes very ill and ends up dying. Soon after that the American army invade the camp and frees the Jews. However Eliezer is stuck with food poisoning and is in the hospital for weeks. When he is finally better and able to levae the hospital he looks in the mirror and doesnt even recognize himself.
