    Syntatic Structures
After completing his PhD at Harvard Noam Chomsky devised his first book called "Syntactic Structures." His main premise is the dissection of language specifically grammar. He proposes in this book that grammar is autonomous and independent from meaning. Leading him to develop his own version of syntax called transformation generative grammar.
  • Language Acquisition Device

Chomsky believed that humans and animals had the ability to comprehend different forms of linguistic information, but humans are able to continue developing those abilities by Language Acquisition Devices. LADs essentially allow us to organize what we hear in grammatical ways which allows us to understand, pushing for another hypothesis that there is a "universal grammar." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cgpfw4z8cw(https://www.timetoast.com)
  • Lectures on Government and Binding: The Pisa Lectures

Chomsky developed his linguistic theories in the forms of lectures which he mainly discussed his Principals and Parameters. Principles and Parameters theory states that every language has similar parameters that can be manipulated and modified (goodtherapy). Principles are properties are true in every language and Parameters are differences.
  • Universal Grammar

    Universal Grammar
Noam proposes that in all languages there are similarities in fundamental structures. He developed this hypothesis based off of children development in speaking. Children don't necessarily need to be taught how to speak properly (in their native tongue), they are still able to speak using familiar language even if its broken. He believed that humans were born with this unique characteristic!
