    King Christian rides through his city and among his people without a bodyguard. Legend says that "all of Denmark is his bodyguard."

    The USA declare war on Japan after the December 7 bombing of Pearl Harbor, HI. A few days later, after Hitler declares war on the United States, President Roosevelt, with approval from the Congress, declares war on Germany.
  • Danes sink their Naval vessels

    Danes sink their Naval vessels
    Danish sink their entire Navy in Copenhagen harbor so that the approaching Germans would not have their ships.
  • Soldiers stop Annemarie, Ellen and Kirsti on the streets of Denmark

    The girls are running home from school and German soldiers stop them in the street and ask them questions.
  • Jewish businesses shut down

    The Germans shut down all Jewish owned businesses in Copenhagen
  • Jewish New Year

    Jewish in Copenhagen are told by their Rabbis that they will be rounded up that evening. The Rosens go into hiding but Ellen stays with the Johansens.
  • Germans Soldiers come to Johansen apartment.

    The soldiers are looking for the Rosen family and question the Johansens about Ellen. Mr, Johansen pulls a baby picture of Lise from an old album to show that Ellen is his.
  • Mrs. Johansen and girls leave Copenhagen

    Mrs. Johansen takes Ellen, Annemarie and Kirsti to Uncle Henrik's house to be safe from soldiers in Copenhagen.
  • Staged Funeral

    Uncle Henrik and Mrs. Johansen stage a fake funeral of Great Aunt Birtie at his home. This is to hide blankets and clothes for the hiding Jews. But it was primarily as an excuse as to why there were many people (Jews) in their home.
  • German soldiers come to Henrik's

    Germans Soldiers question the casket. Annmarie's mom tricks them from opening it by stating that Aunt Birtie's typhus germs are still present in the casket.
  • Mr. Rosen drops the package.

    Mr. rosen drops the special package Peter gave him on the step outside the house, in the dark
  • Annemarie find the special package

    Mrs. Rosen and fallen and broken her ankle. Annemarie finds her in the early dawn hours. Upon bringing her back to the house, they come across the special package.
  • Annemarie brings the package to the boat and encounters soldiers.

    Annemarie takes the path though the woods to Uncle Henriks boat. Germans soldiers stop and question her but the special package they find is just a bundle of napkins. The importance of the napkins, which the Germans do not know, is that they are soaked with a substance that stops German dogs from scenting the Jews.
  • Tivoli Gardens bombed

    The Germans bomb Tivoli Gardens and it is mostly destroyed by fire.
  • The War ends.

    WWII ends. Annemarie is 12 years old. They find out Peter had died in the Resistance fighting. Annemarie and her father fix Ellen's necklace and Annemarie pledges to return it to her someday.
