The Man named Odd
Odd Thomas lives in Pico Mundo, California. He is forced to write his story by an obese six fingered man. His special talent allows him to see ghosts, while obtaining a job as a short order cook at the Pico Mundo Grille and maintaining a love interest -
Harlo Landerson
Harlo Landerson is a friend that Odd knew from high school. His prized possesion was his Firebird. Odd discovered that he was the killer of Penny Kallisto and chased him through backyards and finally tracked him into a house which led to a quick duel in a childs bedroom in which odd won. Harlo was later taken away by the police and this introduced the Police chief Wyatt Porter into the novel. The scene was investigated and pictures of Penny were found in Harlo`s wallet -
Stromy Llewellyn
Stormy Llewellyn (originally Bronwen Llewellyn) is a girl about the same age as Odd Thomas with good morals. She believes that her and Odd belong together and she proves it troughout the novel. She believes thats whats expected in the next life will be Worth enduring -

Stranger at the Grille
Odd Thomas works at the Pico Mundo Grille, during his workday, he encounters an unusual visitor at the grille which eats an amount of food worth his weight. But the most strange part about "Fungus Man" (Which is the name odd gives him as he sees his unclenlines) is that he has bodachs surrounding him, which are dark spirits or ghosts that usually foreshadow death or a tragic event, and only Odd can see them. -
Black Room
As odd enters the bedroom, He hears a doorknob twisting from the closet door, it keeps twisting until Odd opens it and he discovers a giant black room. As Odd enters the room he sees mysterious events and entities. As Odd leaves the black room, he sees himself standing in the doorway. Odd then investigates the strange findings in fungus mans office. -
Little Ozzies Cow
After Odd investigates the black room at Fungus Mans house, he pays a visit to Little Ozzie, little Ozzie preaches to Odd about how his huge fake cow exploded.“Nothing is worse than being alone on the evening of the day when one's cow has exploded.” -
A stranger at Dinner
Stormy and Odd go to dinner after seeing Stormys uncle at the church. From a distance, Odd spots Fungus Man staring at Stormy and himself eating dinner. This shows that Odd knows now that he is being watched and it foreshadows something bad to come for Odd or Stormy -
Violas Dream
After dinner, Odd takes a car to go see Viola and and she tells him anout a strange fream that she had. Viola tells Odd about the dream in which she was kiled. Odd later sees bodachs around her daughters room. odd tells Viola to stay inside or go to her sisters. He tells her to be cautious and to not go to any public places. -
Gypsy Mummy
On the walk home with Stormy, they encounter a couple at a "gypsy fortune telling machine' in which it draws a card and it reveals a future vision. The couple at the machine were getting frustrated because the machine kept deliviering misfortunes. Odd and stormy decided not to try their luck because they arleady have a card saying they would be together forever as well as matching birthmarks. Odd and Stormy take these as positive signs -
Fungus Man Dead
After Odd investigates the gun, he shortly turns to the restroom to continue his investigation. In the bathtub he sees a lifeless body covered in blood. As Odd turns the body over to identify it carefully, he recognizes that it is Bob Robertson and he quickly makes the connection to the gun in his living room. -
The Mall
The final major scene of the novel, Odd arrives at the Green Moon Mall and interacts in a gunfight as well as knocking out security guards. The wierd part about this is that he sees Viola Peabody at the mall which was supposed to be at her sisters. After brief gunfire, a truck explosion occurs which kills Stormy right on the spot. -
Hospital
After Stormy`s death, Odd returns to the hospital. In the final scene of the novel, Odds special ability allows him to see Stormy one last time before she goes away for good.“Fate isn’t one straight road…there are forks in it, many different routes to different ends. We have the free will to choose the path.” -
Odd Pays a Visit
After studying Fungus Man at the grille, Odd feels it his duty to investigate the situation. Shortly after his shift, he borrows his boss, Terri`s, mustang and takes it to shadow fungus man. Odd first he sees Fungus Man at the mall buying strange items then follows fungus man to his home, which he investigates as soon as he sees Fungus Man leave. When Odd gets inside, he see a mess, assortments of clothes, magazines, and tissues on the ground, Odd stumbles upon a strange finding in the bedroom. -
Odd finds a Gun
As Odd returns from Stormy`s that night, He enters his apartment to find an unsusual item staring at him from his living room coffee table. He finds a gun perfectly placed in the center of his house, he is careful not to touch it -
Chief Porter Shot
After Odd returns from hding the body at the Quonset Hut, He discovers police chief Wyatt Porter shot three times in the chest, and once in the head. Although most of the time these wounds are fatal, the cheif survived and was rushed to the hospital. Odd later visits the chief in the hospital and stays there for the night.
