Olympic Events Timeline

  • Spain 1992 Olympics

    Spain 1992 Olympics
This was the last summer Olympics to be held the same year as the winter Olympics. The 1992 summer Olympics were also the first games without boycotts since 1972 (end of Cold War). This Olympics was the final accomplishment of the past Soviet Union. Nations under the former Soviet Union competed and ranked first overall. This showed how the Olympics can unify countries.
  • Beijing 2008

    Beijing 2008
The 2008 games total costs were 40 to 44 billion dollars. The 2014 Sochi Olympics just exceeded this cost. This led to costoveruns within the economies. The 2008 games caused traditional neighborhoods to be removed for events. It was reported that a total of 500,000 residents were relocated from their homes before the Olympics began (Meyer). Unfortunately, these events show us no sure benefits from hosting the Olympics for other countries to look at.
  • London 2012 Olympics

    London 2012 Olympics
The London games were not as costly as the Beijing games. The 2012 Olympics were very organized and structured. From security to transport there was organization. There was a committe created to organize the whole Olympics. However, people were still kicked out of their houses and there was nothing they could do. They were simply just bought out and this seems to be a pattern from host cities.
