    The Manhattan Project Begins
    A secret military project created to produce the first US nuclear weapon, this happened in the year of 1942. The fear of the Nazi Germany would build and use a nuclear weapon during World War ll triggered the start. Three main research and production facilities were established at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Oak Ridge Laboratories provided uranium-235 and Hanford produced weapons-grade pluttonium.

As a condition precedent of any lasting peace that all nations of the world be given each its own proper place.     The battle of Iwo JIma was one of the last battles of war. Iwo was a island by Japan. Because of the distance from U.S. bases in the Mariana Islands and Japan, the caputring of the Iwo Jima would provide a emergency landing strip of crippled B-29. In the end, Americans reaised the flag over Iwp Jima. "The battle of Iwo Island has been won." - Admiral Chester W. Nimitz

    Truman was vice president until 7:09 P.M. on April 12, 1945. Truman was then the 33rd president of the United States after Franklin D. Roosevelt dies in office. Truman picked up the problems from war from where Franklin left off.
