    The start of the war was caused by an Assanation of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. He was killed by a Serbian teenager who shot him and his wife.
  • Tanks

    The first tank was introduced in World War 1 and was used in the Battle of Fers. The idea of tanks came from farming vehicles that could easily move over anything and anywhere. Although, the top speed was only 4 mph.
  • World War 1 Begins

    World War 1 Begins
    Germany officially starts the war by attacking France. Some great powers got together to protect Belgium. The war then spread across the globe.
  • Trench Foot

    Trench Foot
    Many soldiers suffered from an infection called trench foot dying World War 1. This infection was caused by cold and wet conditions. Almost 20,000 British men were treated for Trench foot.
  • Poison Gas

    In the first winter of World War 1 tear gas was introduced and used by both sides. The Germans had discovered something better called xylyl bromide. This killed thousands with devastating effects.

    Another reason America stepped in was because the sinking of Lusitana. It was caused by a fired torpedo off of a U-Boat. The Lusitana sunk off the coast of Ireland.

    Flamethrowers transformed the way the World War was fought. The most memorable time a flamethrower was used is when it used for a surprise attack on the British at Hooge. They killed 800 men in a total of just two days.

    He took prisoners back to Germany on a train. Whenever, the train was stopped he would get some excercise. He had to ride in the freight car with the prisoners since he missed the coach car and then later on ran into a guy that was in the freight car.

    The USA got involed for many reasons, One main reason is that they had found out about the Zimmerman telegram sent to Mexico. The telegram was saying to attack America.

    He wasn't of age to join the army but he lied to a recruiter so he could join. Then pestered his recruiter to send him out to France. While he was in service he drove motorcycles, cars, ambulances, and guarded German prisioners.

    They had many different roles of military dogs. The main breed used was Dobermen because they were easy to train and very smart. Another breed that was commonly used was a German Shepard because of their strength.

    Treaty of Versailles
    This ended the war between Germany and Allied Powers. It blamed Germany for the war and made them pay for reparations. This also set the ftage for World War 2.

    Frank WoodRuff Buckles Death
    He was born on Feburary 1, 1901. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 110 on Feburary 27th. Although, he was the last known surviving American veteran of World War 1.
