Parliament Acts from 1763-1770

  • Proclamation 1763

    This was issued in order to further stop ward and get more cooperation from the Natives and it added more land to the French Islands of Cape Breton and St.johns. It also created four imperial governments in Grenada, Quebec, and east/ west Florida. They thought it was too late to try and fix or be apprehended so they weren't supportive of the proclamation.
  • Quartering Act

    This act forced the colonies to allow the British government to stay with the colonists, and the colonists had to satisfy any wishes they had and provide them with food after the French and Indian War. The colonists were angry because not only did they have to do these things for the soldiers but the soldiers would ridicule and tease these people because they know that they could and nobody could do anything about it which was another factor leading up to the revolution.
  • Sugar Act

    It was an act created in order to increase revenue given up by the colonies to Great Britain causing the people to pay taxes on a pence gallon of foreign molasses, sugar, foreign coffee, etc. The people were immediately angry and because prices were higher on rum and molasses the exports of them taxed items decreases.
  • Stamp Act

    It required newspapers, licenses, leases, legal documents, pamphlets, etc. to have money stamps which even for a short period of time caused the people economy to decline vividly. The people were livid and wouldn't parliament to do something about it or they would take things into their own hands.
  • Declaratory Act

    It stated that even thought the Stamp Act was repealed Parliament still had the power to make laws that could bind the American colonies.
  • Townsend Act(s)

    In a way to reduce the high taxes in Britain this was created in order to put more work onto the colonies when they traded and because he made put onto goods that the colonies imported which didn't break any constitutional rights or laws. This act was another factor imputed onto the colonies that lead to the American Revolution and though they agreed through non-importation they stopped importing goods that were taxed by the act.
  • Boston Massacre

    This occurred because the people protesting and it got out of hand leading British soldiers to shoot at the people resulting in five dead and other injured. This made the colonists continue to rebel and ultimately led to the Boston Tea Party
  • Tea Act

    It was created in order to lower the amount of tea the British East India Company had to hold in their warehouse and to help the struggling company survive but this further angered the colonies and resulted in the Boston tea party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This was a political protest because the colonists were angry and frustrated at the British for imposing taxation without representation ad they dumped a whole lot of tea that was imported in into the harbor.
  • Boston Port Act

    In order to punish those in Boston for the Boston Tea Party this act was created and it closed the port of Boston and the city's residents were forced to pay about 1 million dollars worth of tea back. The colonies saw this again as something that violated their constitutional rights and were very unhappy about this.
  • Quebec Act

    It was created in order to instill a permanate administration in canada which replaced the temporary governed the proclamation of 1763 created. It gave the French Canadians complete religious freed and it restored the French form of the civil law.
