    Ghana

    The empire of Ghana was a powerful trading empire in Western Africa. Founded by the Soninke people, this kingdom was most active during this time span. Ghana conquered other tribes to form a mighty empire. The original title of the empire was Wagadu, but some citizens called it ghana because that was the king's title. After moving its capital several times, the last capital city was Kumbi. This city was soon taken over by a northwestern African Muslim group called the Almoravids in 1076.

    Mali

    The high and mighty empire known as Mali thrived in West Africa. Established by Sundiata, Mali was a kingdom of the Malinke people. Mali's most beloved emperor was Musa, a Muslim who came into throne in about 1307. Musa had achieved many things such as creating famous trading cities like Timbuktu and Gao and founding a university in Timbuktu. In the 1400s, some people started to rebel against Mali's rulers, which was a cause of its decline. Mali had eventually lost all power by 1550.

    Songhai

    The Songhai empire became wealthy because of how they controlled the trade all throughout Western Africa. Centered in now what is central Mali, Songhai traveled up and down the Mali River and across the deserted lands of the Sahara trading gold and salt. Before Mali took over Gao in 1325, Songhai people started settling there in AD 800. To make a living, most Songhai people raised herds of animals. Another way to make a living is by trading in the cities. The empire hit its decline in the 1500s

    This was a time when cartography was first brought to the surface. European explorers such as Vespucci, Polo, and Tolemy all traveled the world on ships to try and create the first map. Tolemy did it successfully, and published an entire book on it. Polo bragged and promoted Asia to Europe about the huge amount of wealth found there. On Vespucci's voyage, he kept a close eye and followed Columbus's passage.

    The Industrial Revolution was the innovation of machines, factories, and mass-production products. Before the Industrial Revolution, people were considered "lucky" to have one or two shirts, which had to be handmade and handsewn by a worker and then used a loom to actually make the shirt. When a man named Sir Richard Arkwright who invented a machine that controlled the process of spinning cotton threads. These machines were replicated and put into factories for mass production.
