Rodney King Case - On March 3rd 1991, the LAPD arrested African American man Rodney King because of reckless driving. The police then beat King 56 times with batons, and the 81 second videotape was shown on TV. 4 days later, the charges against King were dropped. -

Much like the title, black men began to feel “trapped” in what still felt like a white man’s America. The song “Trapped” woke a lot of black men up to the issues they were facing. Multiple depression websites and people helping with dealing depression started becoming more of a thing. Awareness of depression being a mental disorder and more research led to people being able to get help and the stigma on depression became less and less. There has also been more done to help people get help. -
