  • Peter is Born

    Peter was the 14th out of 16 children.
  • Peter's Childhood Education

    This is not a single event but many events that happened throughout his childhood. His education was mainly taught to him from multiple private tutors. He gained significant knowledge as a young boy and was very far ahead of anyone else his age.
  • Peter and Brother Crowned

    Peter and his half brother Ivan are crowned as the rulers of Russia.
  • Arranged Marriage

    Peter married Eudoxia Lopukhina in an arranged marriage set up by his mother.
  • Peter Assumes Sole Rule

    Ivan had been sick and died so Peter takers solo rule of Russia.
  • Peter Finds Way Out of Arranged Marriage

    Peter forces wife, Eudoxia Lopukhina, to become a nun therefore ending their marriage. He wanted freedom and independence from being with someone he didn't love.
  • Marries Second Wife

    He secretly marries Martha Skavronskaya in 1704 but then later has a public marriage. Peter actually loved this woman in comparison to his first arranged marriage.
  • Religous Reforms

    Peter did not like the power that the church held and felt that it challenged his power. So he created the Holy Synod which was a council of ten men who under his view led the church. He found a way to turn the churches power into his power peacefully.
  • Male Children

    Most of Peters male children died in either infancy or early childhood. Six of his sons all died in infancy and another one named Alexei Petrovich, his eldest son, was caught trying to overthrow the throne and was killed from torture. All of his male children were all eventually dead.
  • Unfortunate Death

    Peter had started having urinary problems in 1723 and because of his hard head and motivation to continue getting things done he decided to ignore his problem which led to his death two years later. He died in 1725 from an infection in his bladder.
