    The Whiskey Rebellion
    Many farmers distilled their wheat into whiskey to make it easier to transport to major settlements. However, once a federal tax was put in place on Whiskey, many farmers rebelled against this tax. They attacked tax collectors in an act of defience. However, the rebellion was quickly suppressed once a force lead by Alexander Hamilton scared off many farmers, only leaving 20 farmers to be arrested. Madison's Statements Regarding the Rebellion

    Washington is Reelected
    In 1792, Washington had won reelection with no opponent. However, he decided to only take two terms due to his poor health and to make an example for future presidents. This was used as a guideline to prevent giving future presidents more power. This tradition was followed by every president until Franklin D. Rosevelt ran for a 3rd presidential term.

    The Anglo-French War
    France And ENgland were almost alwasy at war, and their treaties were short. They began to fight once again in 1793, The US was unable to support eitehr side, and declared neutrality at a later point.

    President Wahington, Neutrality, and Impressment
    Washington's ProclamationDuring the Anglo-French war in 1793, Washington decided that the best course of action would be to declare neutrality in a formal Proclamation. THis angered both France and England, but lasted until 1812. The British decided to test the American neutrality by impressing sailors, or kidanapping them and forcing them to participate in the English Navy.

    After the Whiskey Rebellion, debates began regarding it. This was a very controversial subject, with Federalists blaming small political clubs known as the Democratic Republicans for stirring up trouble. However, many defended the small clubs stating it prevented aristocracy. This slowly created a rift between many representatives, and grew into 2 political parties.

    After the Whiskey Rebellion, the many representatives slowly formed 2 political parties. The Federalists, lead by Adams and Hamilton, believed in a strong government and supported industry. The Democratic Republicans, lead by Jefferson and Madison, believed the states deserved more power and believed the US would need to remain agriculturally based until they gained more power.

    Battle of Fallen Timbers
    After a force of British and Native Americans attacked many groups of American settlers, the US decided to fight back. In 1794, General Anthony Wayne lead an American force that crushed the confederacy. After said battle was finished, the group signed the Treaty of Greensville, which forced many Native Americans out of the Ohie river valley.     Jay's Treaty
    After the British began impressing American sailors, many Americans believed Impressment was the price of trading. To avoid another war, Jonh Jay signed a treaty between England and the US. This treaty gave the British more exclusive trade rights but forced many British soldiers out of forts on American soil. Many Democratic Reps. saw this as a cowardly act, but the Feds. were pleased.     Plickney's Treaty With Spain
    The Treaty of San LorenzoAfter the Revolutionary War, Spain closed New Orleans to American trade because the country was so weak.However, Thomas Plickney drafted a Treaty with SPain that allowed American trade in New Orleans, and also drew an official border for Spanish Florida.

    Washington's Farewell
    After 8 consecutive years in office, President George Washington resigned from his position. During his time in office, the Whiskey Rebellion divided the government he oversaw in two. Because of this, Washington decided to leave the public with one last statement. This "speech" asked for Americnas to stay neutral until they became stronger, and to not be swayed by the emerging political parties.

    The French Revolution was a series of events in which the French monarchy was overthrown and many constitutions were put in place to represent the lower and middle classes. Americans were very happy that the French were fighting for democracy, but became much less enthusiastic when the French began to massacre the nobles which ruled the lands prior to this. The Democratic Reps.found the life of the many nobles a small price to pay for independence, but the Federalists thought it was too harsh.
  • Americans Move Westward

    Americans Move Westward
    After the many battles and treaties during this time period, Americans began to move westward. This was thanks to the British abandoning their many western forts and the Spanish opening New Orleans to free trade. By 1800, over 400,000 Americans occupied the lands previously owned by France.
