  • Indian Independence

    Indian Independence
    An act of UK Parliament, that partitioned British India into the new, two independent domains of India. Pakistan became a new country on August 15th, and India, on August 14th.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Soviet Union cut off al traffic and water to West Berlin , in hope that the allies would give up the area, or the idea reunifying Germany. American and British officals fly in supplies for 11 months.
  • Creation of Israel

    David Ben-Gurion, the head of Jewish Agency, proclamined the formation of Israel. President Truman also recognized the new nation on the same day
  • Formation of NATO

    Formation of NATO
    NATO was formed because countries were afraid of the Soviet Union. 12 nations were apart of this alliance.
  • Formation of the Warsaw Pact

    Formation of the Warsaw Pact
    Alliance formed by the Soviet Union and Eastern European nations in response to West Germany joining NATO. Some countries remained non aligned- India, China
  • Lauch of Sputnik

    Lauch of Sputnik
    Soviets Launch Sputnik, which was the first unmanned satellite, into space. Used an ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile). US responds by pouring money into science education, then launching a missile in retaliation in 1958
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Initially, it was prasied for social reforms, and an improvment of the economy. The US places an embargo on Cuba, and Cuba turned to the Soviets for aid.
  • Assassination of Egyptian President Sadar

    The president was assasinated during the anual victory parade, celebrating Operation Badr. A fawta approving the assasination had been obtained. The assasination was undertaken by members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
  • Tiananmen Square Protest

    Tiananmen Square Protest
    Chinese troops violently took hold of the square, seizing many students who were protesting for democracy, and their rights.
  • Assasination of the Israeli Prime Minister.

    The assasination began at the end of a rally, in support of the Oslo Accords, at the Kings of Israel Square in Tel Aviv. The killer was an israeli ultranationalist terrorist, named Yagil Amir.
