There were three powerful quakes that ranged from 7.5 to 7.9 in terms of size. The first quake on December 16, 1811 occured in Arkansas. The second and third earthquakes took place in Missouri. President Madison said to have felt the after waves in Washington D.C. -
The War of 1812
The War of 1812 lasted two years and eight months. It took place in central and eastern North America. This war was fought between the United States and Great Britain. One of the causes was Great Britain was trying to block the US from trading with them. -
Burning of Washington
On August 24, 1814 the British set fire to the U.S. Capitol and the White House. The British set fire to these places because they were angry with previous American decisions. Dolley Madison, the President's wife, had enough time to grab a special portrait of George Washigton. She put the painting in one of the underground tunnels underneath the White House. -
Francis Scott Key Writes National Anthem
The Star Spangled Banner was originally a poem. It was set to the tune of "To Anacreon in Heaven", a popular British song. Francis Scott Key wrote this after seeing the Battle of Fort McHenry. The poem has four stanzas but the first one is commonly sung today. -

This war was fought between the United States and the Barbary States, which inculded the North African territories of Tripole,Tunis,and Algeria. This war helped stop piracy, which is stealing between ships.
