Reduce Classroom Waste

  • Lesson on Waste Reduction

    Present current global attempts for waste reduction, the benefits to this movement and areas still needed for improvement. Also incorporate curriculum science discussions about environment.

  • Disposal Bin Education

    Have students discuss what goes into each disposal bins before bringing ideas into a larger classroom discussion. After discussion have student break into group to make signs which will be placed on the wall behind each bin showing popular use items and where they go.

  • Reduce Classroom Waste

    Have children brainstorm and research ways to reduce classroom waste and then implement these ways: Reusable water bottles only, less paper use in classroom, etc.

  • Reflection on Waste Reduction Attempts

    Have students write reflection journals about how they felt our brainstormed solutions worked in practice and whether they would want to or already do use any of them while at home.
