  • Start of Factories

    Start of Factories
    First factory was built in 1721 (silk mill). Started becoming more popular in the late 1700's.
  • French/Indian War

    French/Indian War
    The actual French and Indian war lasted 7 years. It cost a lot of armies, ammo and soldiers.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    The industrial revolution started in England. This was the switch from hand production to using machines.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This was a political protest against British goods. It led to what's known as the American Revolution.
  • Revolutionary War

    Revolutionary War
    The first march was by the British to Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. This is the war that gave the United States freedom. The war was fought between the United States and Great Britain.
  • Writing of Constitution

    Writing of Constitution
    The Constitution was amended 27 times. There were 2 controversial plans known as the Virginia and New Jersey plan, with the Connecticut Compromise that allowed both plans to work. The Constitution is a set of rules for the United States which includes the Bill of Rights.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark
    This was the first expedition to cross the western half of the United States. The Louisiana Purchase was purchased the year before the start of the expedition. This expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise prohibited slavery past the point 36 degrees 30' in the former north Louisiana territory. This was repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny
    Manifest Destiny was the belief that the United States was supposed to expand west across the continent. The term was first used in a newspaper in 1845.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    This was the fight to decide whether Kansas would be a free or a slave state. It got its name because around 600 lives were lost over this.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    This was a war fought to make the Southern states that split off from the United States back as a part of the United States, but also to end the slavery in those states. There was an estimated 620,000-750,000 soldiers dead.
  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while he was at a play. It occurred after the Confederates had surrendered to end the Civil War.
  • Reconstruction

    Reconstruction
    After Lincolns death there were 2 different focus's, the first one was to unite the states. Another focus was to transform the southern states to not be slave states anymore.
