Queen Victoria's father was Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and who was George III’s son. Queen Victoria's mother was Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. This event is significant because Queen victoria became queen of England for 63 years which made great cultural expansion and advances in industry.

    Michael Faraday was an English scientist who didn’t have a well off family. When he was 14 educated himself by reading books on a wide range of scientific subjects for the next seven years. In 1834, Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, the principle behind the electric transformer and generator.     Victoria’s father died shortly after her birth and she became heir to the throne because the three uncles who were ahead of her in succession, had no children who survived. On William IV's death on June 20, 1837, she became Queen at 18. Her coronation was held at Westminster Abbey a year later. The coronation was a huge occasion thousands of visitors went to London.     Prince Albert was Queen Victoria's cousin. Victoria fell in love with him instantly. On February 10, 1840 at Chapel Royal St. James’s Palace they got married. This was the first wedding of a reigning queen in England since 1554. They had a happy marriage and restored the crowns prestige. The crown's prestige deteriorated by the reins of previous predecessors. This is important because Victoria became dependent on Prince Albert’s wisdom and advice as queen.     The California Gold Rush took place in the Sacramento valley in 1849. News about gold rush spread and thousands of people travelled by sea or land to San Francisco.     On May 19th, 1849 there was an attempted assassination. A man standing within the railings of the Green Park, fired at her as she was driving up Constitution Hill. The Queen did not lose her self-possession. She told the coachman to drive on. She then talked to her children to divert their attention. She welcomed home survivors with gratitude, and instituted the Victoria Cross, for acts of valor in the field. The queen plunged into a deep grief. The queen would never leave her black, but she went back into publics view slowly.     Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born scientist. He was homeschooled until 11 and then went to high school. Bell enjoyed science but did not do well academically. His school work was poor but, his mind was active. In 1870 he moved to Boston and became a teacher He became very interested in the possibility of transmitting speech over wires.     Thomas Edison was an American inventor. He made many devices that influenced life everywhere. One of his innovations was the electric light. In 1878 Edison focused on inventing a safe and inexpensive electric light that would replace the gaslight. He set up an electric light company where he did research.     Governor Glasgow, signed a Electoral Act into law on September 19,1893. New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world, where all women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections. It was the result of years of effort by suffrage campaigners. In 1891 through 1893 they compiled a series of massive petitions calling on Parliament to grant the vote to women. Fauvisms’ major contributions to modern art was its goal of separating color, representational purpose and allowing it to exist on the canvas as an element. Color could project a mood and establish a structure within the work of art. In her 63 years of reign, the people saw the growth of an empire in which the sun never set. She was an indomitable monarch who, was adept at getting her own way.
