Question 3

  • Camera

At the beginning of the course and planning stages, we were introduced to brand new state of the art video cameras using memory cards to store our footage. This allowed the quality of our filming to be HD and clear for when we produced our final videos. We started off by placing the camera on the tripod and fig rig to make sure we had a variety of shots from different angles.
  • Period: to

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

  • Use of blogger

We used blogger as a media platform to post our research, planning and evaluation, in which will provide access for our teachers to keep up to date with the work we produce. Blogger is useful by allowing me to embed work I've produced from other websites and incorporate it onto one device. The apps and websites I used in conjunction wih blogger to display my work was mainly Prezi, Emaze and Padlet.
  • Research and planning

For the research and planning stages, we used a production schedule on TimeToast to plan our filming dates and ensure that we were organised to avoid missed filming days, and members of our group not knowing when we were meeting to film.
  • Production schedule on TimeToast

We created a digital storyboard using 'Storyboard That' to bring our storyboard together. To use this app, you must first pick a background for each of your storyboards; you can also include speech bubbles and special effects. However, we chose to keep our storyboard simple with a white background because we wanted a toned down coloured scheme, as we were uncertain of the colours we would choose to use. We played 'On My Mind' in the background to add energy and life to the simple storyboard.
  • Photoshop- using layers

The first step is to upload the image into photoshop using the 'open' option. The next step was to right click on the pop up at the right hand side and click 'dupliacte layer'. To make sure the layer was duplicated to the right place I had to change the destination of the file. Once the layer was on the correct page I had to move the layers around so the background images were place at the bottom of the layers. If I wanted to hide a layer, there is a small eye icon on the left to get rid of it.
  • Using websites to bring together research

I used different media platforms like Prezi, Emaze and Powtoon to bring my research together. Using all three sites, I attached images of the artist and significant features of the video e.g. synergy of the henna tattoo on the eye, to bring my presentations to life and showcase we wanted the final video to look. Although our ideas were constanly changing, these presentations gave us a plaform to gain insight on how the final product would appear.
  • Premiere Pro- Effect EDITTTTT INCOMPLETE

In Premiere Pro, we used an eye-catching colour effect, which consisted of pinks, blues and greens
  • Premiere Pro- Edit

When using Premiere Pro, we used interesting edits of slow motion and reverse to make our video worth watching for the audience as they are kept entertained. The slow motion edit was followed by fast forward motion to be in sync with the song. The reverse effect made the video upbeat to fit the upbeat pace of the song and show Layla to be having fun. This is effective as the target audience are young females so they would be attracted to watching an urban, pop music video.
  • Using 'quick selection tool' on Photoshop

While I was using Photoshop, I was learning how to use the different icons and was getting to grips with the layout of the page and what the tools mean. The quick selection tool was practical, as I was able to select particular parts of the image that I wanted without having to include the background. This was done by dragging the mouse on where I wanted to select, if I perhaps selected too much there is an 'alt' button to hold if I wanted to de-select. The next step was to click select inverse.
  • Facebook and twitter profiles

    Facebook and twitter profiles
We created a facebook and twitter profile to keep our teachers updated with our work. This not only showed our teachers what we were getting up to, it also acted as a platform to gain more followers and spread the word about the upcoming artist 'Layla Hadid'.
  • Internet for research purposes - YouTube continued

At first I was unsure of how to use YouTube to embed music videos onto blogger, however once I discovered how to do so it was very useful, as I was able to embed music videos that linked to mine and use it as examples for comparison. The most useful aspect of using the internet to do this is that I was able to embed the videos onto any website of my choice, this was handy as I was constantly changing the websites I used for research to avoid repetiton.
  • Internet for research purposes - YouTube

We had to use the internet a lot when when constructing our final product. After filming our rough cut, we had to post it onto YouTube so that our teachers could view it and give us feedback. YouTube also helped us in the process as we used it to watch the original music video and gain inspiration from it, as well as watching similar products and seeing how they link to our genre and why they had an influence on our music video.
  • Using Photoshop- Changing colour/font

In Photoshop, I found it quite easy to change the font and colour. All that was needed to do was to double tap the layer of the text, and at the top of the page comes a pop up of options on changing both the text's font and colour.
  • Using Wix- Embedding video

Using Wix for me was very straightforward. The website was easy to follow as it had a bar at the left hand side, providing me with options on adding text, a background etc. Embedding our video was simple as it already had a link to vimeo, therefore all that was left for me to do was change the link.
  • Using Wix- Adding images

Adding images to Wix was effortless as the site provided me with a box labelled 'Image', in which I inserted the image I wanted and the photo came up immediately on the page. It was no struggle to move the images as they were free on the page.
  • Technology in my evauation - Padlet

One use of technology that I used for my evaluation question was Padlet. It was my first time using Padlet therefore I was unsure with what to do, however once I got the hang of how to use it, it became my favourite website to produce work on and I wish I began using it earlier. This is because of how simple it is to use it, all I had to do was double-tap on the page and it gave me options on whether I wanted to attach an image, video or write a text. I loved how the images were so easy to move.
  • Technology in my evaluation- Timetoast

Timetoast is an extremely useful website to use when presenting work. This is because it is organised as you are able to include dates of when you done what which makes things clear and easy to understand. It sets everything out in order; this is especially important for an evaluation as it places the coursework journey in chronological order which makes it easier to analyse as it makes the stages easier to remember.
