  • Period: to

    Project Timespan

This is the time that we spent on the project.
  • Period: to

    Research

This is the period of time during our project that we got given to complete research into real life media texts, as well as our target audience.
  • Wix

    Wix
On this day, we created the blog for our project. The blog has been the crux of our project, and has everything that is going to be marked on it. The Wix site has 6 main pages (Home, Research, Planning, Production, Final Products and Evaluation) that correspond with different parts of the construction of our media products, each with multiple subpages coming off that relate to what we have done in that part of the process.
  • YouTube

    YouTube
On this day, we began using YouTube to find videos of other Children's TV shows opening titles sequences. The Children's TV shows' title sequences that we ended up using for the research part of our coursework were Noddy, Tracy Beaker, Phineas & Ferb, and Wizards of Waverly Place. We also used YouTube for the research when looking into different stereotypical characters that appear in children's TV shows, and clips of these stereotypical characters.
  • Google Images

    Google Images
On this day we started to use Google Images for the research part of our project in order to find some examples of real life magazine and DVD covers of Children's TV shows. The magazine and DVD covers that we used for our research corresponded with the opening titles that we carried research into, so were Wizards of Waverly Place, Noddy, Tracy Beaker and Phineas & Ferb.
  • Twitter

    Twitter
This was the day that we posted our first Twitter poll to find out which Children's TV channel we should link our TV show with. The result from our first poll was CBBC, so we linked our programme with that channel. We then used Twitter again the week after (on the 22nd September) to post another poll to see what character stereotype people thought was most important to see in a children's TV show. The answer to this poll was normal kids, so we based our TV show on a "normal kid".
  • CBBC Website

    CBBC Website
On this day, we began research into our target audience. We had already decided (based on information that we had received from our Twitter polls) that our programme was going to be on the CBBC channel. We knew from experience that all programmes on the CBBC channel tended to have the same kind of target audience, so decided to carry out some research into their target audience and what they do to attract their target audience.
  • YouTube

    YouTube
On this day, we began the planning progress for our media products. The first thing that we looked at was different music to use as the backing track for the opening titles on YouTube. We had quite a few tracks that we could choose from for our backing track, however some of them that we found weren't actually royalty free, so we had to get rid of them and focus on the ones that were royalty free.
  • Period: to

    Planning

This is the period of time during our project that we got given to complete the planning aspect of our project.
  • Radio Studio

    Radio Studio
On this day, we went into the radio studio at college to record a mini podcast explaining the concept of the show and the characters. Although this podcast didn't make it on to the blog because the idea for the show's opening titles changed a bit from when we recorded the podcast to when the opening titles and the ancillary products were produced, we still thought it'd be worth to mention it on here as the radio studio is a prime example of a media technology that was used.
  • Storyboard That

    Storyboard That
On this day, we used Storyboard That to create a storyboard to plan out the opening titles in. We planned 4 different scenarios of what's going to happen in the opening titles, all of which featured in the sequence.
  • Canon EOS 7D

    Canon EOS 7D
On this day, we used the Canon EOS 7D camera to carry out a location recce around college to see where we could shoot different scenarios in our opening title sequence. Whilst doing the location recce, we weren't too worried about locations for the print products as we knew that the still shots would just be taken in the TV studio at college, and we carried out some test shots for these the week after.
  • Photoshop

    Photoshop
On this day, we used Photoshop to start creating a logo for "Hero High", which is the school that the programme is based in. Although we didn't end up incorporating the logo for the school into any of our products, we also used Photoshop in the planning process to make an early draft of our poster
  • Popplet

    Popplet
On this day, we used Popplet as a way to express our ideas and concepts for the show that we were going to be producing. We also incorporated character profiles into this page, as we needed to plan how each character was going to be and thought that it'd fill in well here.
  • Microsoft Publisher

    Microsoft Publisher
On this day, we used Microsoft Publisher to create the final version of our poster. Although we had already created a poster on Photoshop, we didn't think that it looked that eye catching or like it would catch people's attention. We therefore decided to scrap the poster that we had already made and start again, using one of the free templates from Office.com
  • Messenger

    Messenger
On this day, we created a group chat on Messenger with everybody who was going to have a group in our media coursework. The reason that we thought it'd be beneficial to do this is that it'd give us (Ellen and Marc) a way to communicate with the actors
  • Panasonic AG-HMC40 AVCCAM

    Panasonic AG-HMC40 AVCCAM
On this day, we began to film our media productions. The cameras we used when filming were the Panasonic cameras. The reason that we chose this over the 7D cameras was that I (Ellen) had more experience in using these cameras than I had in any of the other cameras we had in college.
  • Period: to

    Production

This is the period of time during our project that we were given to produce our products.
  • Canon EOS 7D

    Canon EOS 7D
On this day, we began to take the still shots for our ancillary products. We took a still shot of each of the main characters, and then incorporated it into the products. The reason that we used the 7D cameras rather than the DSLRs is that we had already had experience with the 7D cameras when doing the location recce and test shots.
  • Premiere Pro

    Premiere Pro
On this day, we started using Premiere Pro to edit together the footage that we had filmed for the opening title sequence. We also used premiere pro to edit on the effects to represent the characters' super powers later on in the production process. The reason that we chose Premiere Pro to edit our project on is that it's the main editing software that we use in college, so we are more confident using it that anything else.
  • After Effects

    After Effects
On this day, we began to use After Effects to experiment on how we were to represent the characters' superpowers in the show. A it turned out, we didn't end up using After Effects to portray the characters' superpowers and instead created images on photoshop and then layered them onto the video.
  • Photoshop

    Photoshop
On this day, we used Photoshop to create the images we were going to edit onto the video to represent the characters' super powers. We also used Photoshop to create the magazine cover and the DVD cover.
  • YouTube

    YouTube
On this day, we used YouTube to upload our opening title sequence on to. The reason that we used YouTube rather than another video platform (such as Vimeo) is that we use YouTube, so have better knowledge of how to use it.
  • Twitter

    Twitter
On this day, we used Twitter to share our media products and gather feedback. The reason that we used Twitter to do this is that we had used Twitter earlier on in the coursework process, and it worked quite well. We also liked the idea of giving Ellen's Twitter followers an update on how the project went / was going.
  • Period: to

    Evaluation

This is the period of time that we were given to complete the evaluation stage of the coursework.
