Reading Timeline

  • Bed Time Stories

At the age of 2, my parents would read stories to me at bed time. These stories would range from classic children's books to age-appropriate bible stories.
  • Summer Reading at Library

This was one of my favorite activites that I looked forward to every summer. My local library would host a summer reading program. There were contests on who read the most books and story time.
  • Learning to Read

After Head Start and at bed time, my parents would help me to read.
  • Accelerated Reader

The beginning of my 1st grade year is whenver I did not enjoy reading anymore. I would read enough to get my points and to keep my parents happy.
  • "Hank the Cowdog" Series by John Erickson

These chapter books were the first series I actually enjoyed and read by myself.
  • Book Report

In the 5th grade, I completed my first book report. I chose "Shilo" by Phillis Reynolds Naylor.
  • "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton

In the 7th grade, we read "The Outsiders" as a class. This was our first chapter book to read together.
  • "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare

We read "Hamlet" in our 10th grade English class. This book was not very enjoyable for me because it was difficult to understand.
  • College Level Reading

My junior year in high school, I decided to take dual-credit colllege courses. While the reading was not as difficult as "Hamlet", I was able to understand what I read and made A's in the classes.
  • Reading to Kids

When I started babysitting, I was able to enjoy reading again. Children's books are the best!
