  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    -6 people signed both this document and the constitution
    -200 copies were made, but only 26 are known to still be around today
    -Robert Livingston was apart of the comitee but never signed it
    -On Dec. 13, 1952, it was delivered to the federal archives
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    Washington's Farewell Address
    -the address was never said by Washington himself
    -Says to not engage in foreign affairs
    -says not to divide into parties
    -tells not to have an all-powerful military to govern
    -He was for free trade
  • Ratification of the Constitution

    -Required 9 of the 13 states to ratify it
    -took 4 months to debate and form the document
    -New Hampshire was the last to approve/ratify it
    -Promised to add amendments to way the states
  • Louisianna Purchase

    Louisianna Purchase
    -France had just recently gained control of the territory before we took it
    -The U.S almost went to war for Louisianna
    -The purchase was only 3 cents an acre
    -Many Americans opposed the purchase
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    -Lewis moved rifle schools due to a "drunken brawl" where he met Clark
    -Sacageawea was an indian who assisted Lewis and Clark
    -The men couldnt pronounce her name so they called her Janey
    -Both men had to eat dog meat for survival
    -Lewis commited suicide in 1809

    -Organized as a territory in 1819
    -New York brought up an amendment to end slavery during this time but was rejected
    -Debated the compromise for approximately 3 months
    -Authored by the senator of Illinois: Jesse B. Thomas
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    -Approximately one-thousand miles
    -The five tribes were the cherokee, choctow, seminole, chickasaw, and creek.
    -Of the 16,000 choctow who travelled, about 5-6000 died en route.
    -The 5 tribes had a constitution, school system, and judicial system.

    -Slavery and central power divided the North and South\
    -Began when the South attacked Fort Sumter, South Carolina
    -The north had more men and material
    -The battle of Gettysburg was the most violent
    -The North outnumbered the South in the begining by about 2:1
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    -After shooting Lincoln, Booth leapt onto the stage and broke his leg. He escaped but was caught and killed 10 days later on a farm in Virgina.
    -Lincoln only had one bodyguard at the time \whom was not at his post at the time of the shooting.
    -Earlier in the day before he was shot Lincoln had come up with the Secret Survise.
    -Even know lincoln was shot at point blank in the head he did not die from his wounds immediatley.
