    The militia heard word about the British coming from Paul Revere and prepared to fight. This was a very successful battle for the Americans. The Americans won the battle using gorilla warfare to over power the British forces.

    The Americans and the British fought this long and hard battle, the Americans were outnumbered two-to-one, but they still fought hard and made it a very difficult and long battle. The British won after a long and hard fight with the Americans

    Battle of Long Island

    On August 22nd, Washington sent 10,000 troops under command of Israel Putnam to slow down the British while he took the rest of the army to Manhattan. The British won the war when Washington realized they were not good enough to prevent the British from taking New York, so he ordered a withdrawal.

    Battle of Trenton and Princeton

    Howe stopped for winter and the Americans came through the Delaware River at night as a surprise attack. They attacked the British in the morning while they were all still sleeping. The Americans won this great victory and they were reenergized for other fights.

    Battle of Saratoga

    This battle consisted of 2 battles fought nearly 3 weeks apart. The Hessians ran into militia and were forced to surrender to the Americans. This is the time that France recognized the US as a country and for its independence. France became our ally.
  • Battle of Vincenness

    Clark marched to Vincennes and led to a surprise attack on the British. The Americans won and Hamilton surrendered.
  • Battle of Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis

    This battle was fought between ships. Bonhomme Richard was very damaged but kept fighting for 3 more hours against Serapis. The British surrendered and the Americans had a great victory.

    Battle of Charleston

    After a siege that began April 2, 1780, the Americans will suffer a great defeat in the Revolution, with the unconditional surrender of Major General Benjamin Lincoln to Sir Henry Clinton & his army of 10,000 troops.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    British troops under General Cornwallis won this battle they lost over 25% of his troops. The battle went on for around 2 hours before Greene ordered a retreat.

    Battle of Yorktown

    This was the most important battle of the Revolutionary War. Washington surrounded Cornwallis by land and by sea. Cornwallis surrendered and ended the Revolutionary War with the Americans being the official winners.
