The Boston Tea Party
The BostonTea Party happened when Britian began to tax colonists on tea. This resulted in angry colinists (about 600) who were disquised, taking themselves to the Wharf in Boston Harbor where they dumped all of the tea loaded on the ships into the water, This was an event that led up to the war. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a group of delegates from all but one of the thirteen colonies. They met on September 5th to October 26th, 1774 to discuss resolution and authority towards Great Britain. -
The Intolerable Acts
In result of the Boston Tea Party, Britain decided to crack down on the colonists, They did this by bringing upon the colonists five new acts/rules that were passed in 1774. These acts were The Boston Port Act, Massachussets Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, The Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act. This was an event leading up to the war. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord was a battle fought near Boston on April 19th, 1775. General Thomas Gage sent about 700 soldiers to destroy the weapons and ammunition of the colonists that was stored in Concord. They also had a plan to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock. This event started the war. -

The Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a document adopted July 4th, 1776 that stated that the thirteen American colonies "reguarded themselves as independent states and no longer a part of the British empire." The Declaration is pretty much just a formal way of explaining why congress had voted to declare independence from Britain. -

Winter at Valley Forge
Took place throughout the winter of 77-78. After another defeat in Germantown, the colonial army went to the camp Valley Forge where they would stay for the winter. The soldiers became weak and hungry. 2,000 men were lost. Then with Washington's leadership, Ben Franklin's training, and lots more supplies, the colonial army grew in strength and became a powerful force. -

The Capture of Savannah
The Capture of Savannah was a battle fought on September 16th, 1779. It was fought in Savannah between American Patriot militia and Continental Army units. -

This was a major victory for the British. British General Charles Cornwallis lead the Americans and their Major General Horatio Gates north of the town of camden. This battle strenghtened the souther control of the Carolinas. -
