    click hereThe French and Indian War, fought between the French and the British, ends with the Treaty of Paris. It was fought over land, mostly in the Ohio River Valley. The British were victorious.

    click hereThe colonists just fought the French Indian War for the British. This was a war fought over land. Now the Colonists can't even move there. They beleived they had the right to live where they pleased. This act was widley ignored.
  • Suger Act

    Suger Act
    It was the act passed putting taxes on sugar and molasses and other things. This tax charged the colonists and there was harsh punishment for smugglers. This act upset the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This was an act passed forcing the the colonists to buy an addtional stamp for documents such as diplomas, contracts, wills, newpaper, and playing cards. This act addded to the colonists anger and to the start of war.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This was an act passed by the British that forced the colonists to house and feed British soldiers. This act angered and upset the colonists. They felt that they should not have to take care of the soldiers.
  • Townshend Act

    This act put taxes an all imports into the colonies. This included lead, glass, tea, etc. This tax had the same reactions from the colonists as all the others, it simply made them more angry.
  • Boston Massacre

    click hereThis event happened on the streets of Boston. The British soldiers fired on a mob of angered colonists. 5 colonists were killed and 2 were wounded. This left the colonists outraged and very angry and upset with the Britidh soldiers. This event gave a major push in the direction of war.

    This act made it so the colonies could only get tea from the British East India Co. The tax on tea was still three pence a pound and gave the British East India Co. the right to choose who got to sell tea. Of course this angered the colonists and lead to the Boston Tea Party.

    click hereAngered colonists boarded a ship carrying tea, disguised as indians and threw the tea crates in the harbor of Boston. 90000 lbs. of tea were thrown overboard. This event was anothor MAJOR push in the direcion of the Revoultionary War.

    Intolerable/Coercive Acts
    These acts were considered intolerable to the colonists and were passed by Britain as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Harbor was closed, all trials were moved to England, town meetings were banned, and the quartering acts were strengthend. You could say that this act pushed the colonists over the edge and left them screaming for war.
  • The First Continaental Congress

    The First Continaental Congress
    click hereThis was a meeting of the coloines, accept Georgia, to discuss what was to be done about British taxes and other acts. Some of the people present were John Jay, John and Sam Adams, and George Washinton. The actions the congress decided to take were to demand repeals, prepare for war, organize a boycott and meet again in May of 1775.

    click herePaul Revere, Sam Dawes, and John Prescott rode through the night to warn the country folk and farmers that the British regulars were on their way to Concord. They also warned John and Samuel Adams that the British were coming to capture them. This event led to the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

    Click HereThis was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The minutemen met the British soldiers on their way to Concord and pushed them back to Boston. This battle was nicknamed "the shot heard 'round the world".
