  • Graduates From West Point

    Graduates From West Point
    In June of 1829 Robert E. Lee graduated. He went to West Point Military Academy, graduating in the top of his class. As well, he was one of six never to have earned a Demerit while he was at West Point.
  • First Military Expirence

    First Military Expirence
    In August of 1846 Robert E. Lee was signed as an engineer by Winfield Scott. Though he never faced combat, this was his induction to the military. This took place durring the Mexican war.

    Back to Westpoint!
    For three years Robert E. Lee returned to Westpoint. This time as the Superintendent. He stayed here from 1852-1855 before moving on in his Military Career.
  • Combat!

    This was Robert E. Lee's forst combat experiance. He was sent to Harper's Ferry with a unit of troops to surpress the resisitance of John Brown and his followers. He later then stayed for John Brown's execution.

    On April 18th 1861 Robert E Lee was offfered command of the entire Union Army by Abraham Lincoln. Lee turned down the offer and then two days later resigned from the Union Army. Later going on with his state in leading the Confederate Army.

    Arlington Estate, Robert E. Lee's plantation was seised by Union forces on May 24th, 1861. Union Soldiers later burried corpses in the gardens and yard. This eventually led to the creation of the Arlington National Cemetary.

    This was Lee's rise back to command again after his loss at Cheat Mountain. Lee was chosen to replace Joseph E. Johnson as the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia. It was in this position he would remain for the rest of the war.
  • The Battle of Cheat Mountain

    The Battle of Cheat Mountain
    This was a major battle that lasted for three days at Cheat Mountain. It was mainly Lee's first military failure. After the three day battle Lee was scolded and then relived of command right after.
  • DENIED

    DENIED
    It was on this day General Robert E. Lee submitted his letter of resignation to the Confederacy. He was prompted souly by his own dignaty as he had suffered incredible losses at Antietam and Gettysburg. Yet, President Jefferson Davis denied the request, so Lee went on with the war.

    South surrenedered to the Union, ending the war.
  • Post Military Life

    Post Military Life
    In the Fall of 1865 Lee and his family moved to Lexington Virginia to retire. He was still active in his life though, he was President at Washington College for the rest of his days. Later that college was renamed the Washington-Lee College in his honor.
  • Death

    On October 12, 1870, Formeral General, Robert E. Lee suffered from a stroak that resulted in his death.
