  • Romulus and Remus found the city of Rome, according to legend. (753 BCE)

    Romulus and Remus were born from a princess and god Mars. They were left in a basket by the Tiber to die by the king they lived with because he thought that they would one day overthrow him for his throne. A she-wolf found them She cared for them and protected them while a woodpecker gathered their food for them. Later on a sheperd found them 2 boys and raised them as his children. As they grew up they became natural leaders. One day Remus got captured and was tooken to the king. Romulus went to
  • Romulus and Remus founded Rome (cont.)

    rescue his brother. They both ended up killing the king. When the city found out who the twins were, they offered them the crown. They sad no and that they wanted to find their own city. They eventually came to the place where Rome is now located. Romulus started building a wall where Rome is located, and Remus started making. So Romulus killed his brother and continued to build rome and lead it.
  • Romans control all of Italy (270 BCE)

    The Romas conquered Italy soon after they expelled the Tarquins. They came into lots of conflicts with neighbouring areas, and the last war they had was with the Sabines. Once Rome defeated them , a Roman consul forced the Sabines into Rome without a vote and made them become citizens
  • Julius Caesar is assasinated on Ides of March (44 BCE)

    Julius Caesar was dictator of Rome. He was assasinated on March 15 by a group pf polititians after being tricked into coming to city hall. They all stabbed him numerous times because they were afraid that he was not good for Rome.
  • Marc Antony ad Clepatra commit suicide, leaving Octavian as strongest ruler (31 BCE)

    After Caesar's death, the politians were forced to flee Rome, leaving Marc Antony, a close friend of Caesar in charge. He was challenged by Caesar's great nephew Octavian. They ended up sharing the power. While he was in Egypt, he met Cleopatra and fell in love with her. He decided he would divorce his wife marry Cleopatra. Octavian was mad that Marc Antony betrayed his sister so he hired someone to kill him. Octavian then captured Cleopatra. She arranged for a snake to be put in her cage, and

    commited suicide by letting the snake bite her. Antony commited suicide by stabbing himself thinking that Cleopatra was dead.

  • Great fire destorys much of Rome. Nero accuses Christians of starting the fire.(64)

    A huge fire in Rome at night on july 18, 64 AD. fire borke out in marchant area of rome. the flames quickly spread to the wooden structures in the imperial city. The fire lasted for 6 days. 70 % of the city was left in ruins.
  • Roman Colosseum is built (80)

    The Roman Colosseum is located in the centre of rome. It took about 10 years to complete. it is 157 feet high and the perimetre is 1788 feet. There were many events hosted there, for example, the olympics, Many modern stadiums are based off the colosseum.
  • Roman Pantheon is built (118-126)

    The roman pantheon was used as a temple. It was built at the same spot 3 different times, by three different people. The first one was destoyed in a fire, the second one was strucked by lightning and burnt down, and third one is still standing today.
